What is PMS?

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder or PMDD is a more extreme form of PMS. It is less common, with about 5% of menstruating women experiencing PMDD. It is characterized by all of the same symptoms as PMS, but they are even stronger, more heightened, and debilitating to the point that it disrupts daily life. It is important to note that the symptoms of PMDD can overlap with other disorders, so visiting your gynecologist can assist with determining the cause of your symptoms to that the appropriate treatment plan can be created.

To treat PMS or PMDD, dietary and lifestyle changes are the best place to start. These include consuming a nutritious and healthy diet, getting ample sleep, and avoiding stress. From there, additional treatments may be explored and combined to help you manage your symptoms and live your life to the fullest. These include:
